Linked workbooks without opening the workbook

I have linked to data from another workbook, which I do by just clicking on the cells I want on the other workbook as if it were a different sheet and it fills in the necessary reference info. Usually my spreadsheet will read from the linked workbook even if it's closed. I have one spreadsheet that requires me to open the other workbook. What makes it need to have the linked source open or allow it to stay closed? How can I make this one link with the other workbook closed? I'm using 2007.

It's possible that could be it. I'm using the countifs function in this particular case. Where would I find a list of functions that need to have it open?

    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
