Excel 07 Password - Save PW protection even if the user doesn't reapply PW when exiting?

I have an Excel 2007 file with 3 tabs. Each of my 3 tabs are password protected against editing. I have given the password to a few co-workers to edit this file which is fine. My issue is these co-workers are making changes and not applying the password protection before saving, leaving my file vulnerable to unauthorized edits.

Is there any way I can setup a auto-save with the password I specified, even if the user clicks exit after editing?

    Thanks to all.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You could create a macro with a button which they must use to save and exit but which also includes the protection command.

    Thank you Russell.

I am familiar with excel's functions, but not the Macro or VBA scripting. Do you know of a resource I can read up to create this Macro? I don't want to take up your time explaining it to me.

    Thank you

    Nathan

    Hi Nathan

    It really is easy.

Make sure you have unprotected the worksheet and saved a backup copy just to be safe.

Select Developer tab < Record Macro < Name it Save < Enter "A" for shortcut key < Store Macro in this workbook < OK

This now has set Excel to record exactly what you do until you stop it. So
now set protection as required, save and then back to Stop recording.

To create a button to run the macro - Insert < Shapes < select your required shape and place it in your worksheet. Right click shape < Assign Macro < Select Save < Make it "This workbook" < OK.

You'll need to add quit to the macro. Click on Macros in the Developer tab and step into. You can replace what you have there with this.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Now you should be able to hit the button to save but it will also enforce protection. Come back if you need further assistance.

    Regards

    Russell
