Data Manipulation in Excel

    Hi guys,

I really need some help, I will try and explain what I want to do as best I can so please bare with me :-)

I own an online eCommerce site and we receive files from some suppliers daily, these are excel files and contain product data such as part numbers, descriptions, cost pricing and current stock levels.

We then have to spend a lot of time copying this data into another spreadsheet template which is compatible with our website software before we can upload this data onto our website thus updating product details, stock and prices.

I am no whizz kid when I comes to formulas and excel, I can manage the basics but that about it.

I want to know if there is a way in which I can take the data from the suppliers spreadsheet and match it to the data on the website upload template, overwriting it if there are any changes.

Some of the fields are the same on both templates for example product title, descriptions, part numbers, cost, stock quantity etc

I have tried using Microsoft Query and VLLOOKUp but I can't figure it out, so any advice is very much appreciated.

If you need any further information please ask and I will try my best to answer.

    Many thanks in advance,

    Luke

First, I'm going to nitpick: your title is pretty vague, it's kind of like asking "how do I word process in Microsoft Word?" Can you maybe edit it to something more specific to the problem that you have with this specific issue?

Anyway, moving on to actually addressing your question:

It sounds to me like your problem isn't really with excel, it's with this currently-unnamed website software....

I think you're asking, "can I make an excel spreadsheet readable by this other software?"

Usually I would advise you to save to a super-simple format like CSV that many spreadsheet applications can handle, but that has its own problems. Like, the spreadsheets are coming in different formats from different people, so there's no layout consistency for simply dumping it into a database....

It's not really all that helpful, and it might not be what you were hoping to hear, but right now my advice is, go to the website software vendor and get tech support from them.

Im sure this is a repeat post, but i cant find the previous 1, so....

you may be able to get away with an imtermediate step, using a template that pulls from the supplier sheets, and then feeds into YOUR sheets in the format you need, or you may be able to modify YOUR sheet to just reference the data you need.

it would make it easier to help if you had some sample files for us to work with tho?
    1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
    2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools

    Re: Data Manipulation in Excel

if the website software has predefined format like product a into cell a1, product b into cell b1 (assume supplier sent the data not sorted that way) then, maybe he needs =SUMIF " or VLOOKUP solution. i know how to do but can't explain due to my english limitation. Hope someone explain this

any chance of uploading a sample of both the supplier worksheet and the worksheet you intend to upload? that way we can see what needs to be done to "marry" them both together
