formula to count word occurrence for every nth cell

I'm looking for help with a excel formula to count the occurrence of a name in every 7th cell in a row.

I am in charge of tracking the number of specific days (ie, 'Saturday) a group of workers works over a year.

I would like the formula to be able to say how many specific days a specific worker worked (ie, Mr. Smith worked 5 saturdays in 2011).

=countif works great for the entire year, but I'd like to break it down by day as well.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

If you make a helpcollumn with the day of the week you can count on that collumn.

Otherwise post a (short) example of your workbook (without confidential information).

Unfortunately, its set up slightly differently (and can't be easily changed). I've attached a sample (obviously, the column with days of the week isn't necessary).
