Adding together only some of the columns in a pivot table

    Hi All,

I have a pivot table with Department names as Row Headings (IT, Project Managers, Developers etc) and what they were working on, their Activity (Billable, Biz Dev, Internal Work etc), as Column headings.
The Values are Sum of Time.

I want to have a final column which is to be the total of only SOME of the Activity columns but I can't work out how to do it without laboriously creating each cell as an =GETPIVOTDATA(cell ref)+GETPIVOTDATA(cell ref)+GETPIVOTDATA(cell ref)

    Any ideas please?

    Many thanks in advance.

you can either group the activities you want (select the headers for each, then right-click and group) or you can create a calculated item in the activity field.

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to

    That's great. :-) Thank you.

But I want it to show all the column headings 'as well as' a new column for this new group.

    Any ideas?

    Many thanks,

    W.

if you group 'em you'll get a new copy of that field-if you have both in the column area, you can see the detail as well as the group total. if you use the calculated item it'll still show the individual items too.
