I have bought a list which has forename and surname but no title, and I want to send them a personalised letter. I don't know them, so to use their first name seems overly familiar, so is there any way of generating a title. It would obviously have to look at the first name and match it against a list to ascertain whether it should be Mr or Mrs. Any ideas?
how would you know its mrs ms or miss? or even sir or dr for example these people would be annoyed if you just called them mr or mrs
anyway you'll need a list of every known girls or boys names to compare against and then some of those can be either.
first step make a list of girls names ,you could start here good luck

then with your first name in a1 use something like

I know there's some software out there that does identify whether it should be Mr or Mrs. As you say, it can't work out whether it should Miss or Dr etc but Mr / Mrs would be better than nothing! I'd rather not start building it myself if I can avoid it.
