    Linking numerical values to text?

    Hi,

Could someone advise me on how I can link numerical values to text.

    For example:

Filling in an environmental spreadsheet for all my employees. I must enter their name, method of transport, mileage and amount of CO2 used. Can I set up a separate page with all of the data on and just copy and paste a name and the other data in set columns will auto fill.

    E.g. A1 = Terry Smith Therefore A2 = Train, A3 = 10, A4 = Total. Knowing that train also is linked to a value of 150 grams per Km of CO2 emission.

This would be useful in many operations.

    Thanks,

    John

I think what you want here would be a look up table and use vlookup to lookup the CO2 emmisions of a train.

Make a lookup table that will auto populate the fields you want based upon a key input say look up Terry Smith or some sort of unique identifier ...

Sending in a sample spreadsheet with the associated data you desire would assit folks helping you out in tailoring a solution that fits your needs.
