Set visual priority of data series on a scatter chart (Microsoft solution doesn't work!)

    Hi Everyone,

I can't find the answer to this question...

In the event that one or more data series plot a marker at the same point in scatter chart, how do I indicate which data series always has visually priority, meaning, I suppose, that it is plotted on top or over the markers from the other data series.

I've tried a few things but nothing has worked!

    Cheers, Jay

Re: Set visual priority of overlapping data series on a scatter chart

Thanks, shg, but unfortunately the published Microsoft answer doesn't seem to work for my scatter chart! Perhaps because my scatter chart involves secondary axes?

In any event, I am including my chart with this post, and if you have a second, you will see that the changing the order of the data series does not, for example, allow the HS Parents data series to be plotted over other data series.

    Any further ideas?

    Cheers, Jay

I'm still struggling with this problem... FYI: In case it is relevant to the problem, this chart was originally created with Jon Peltier's "Dot Plotter" add-in, then substantially modified.

    Cheers!

I don't know if this will help or not, since I'm using an older version of Excel. Here's what I found.

It appears that Excel 2002 plots data in this order: Plots all series assigned to the primary axis in order, then it plots all series assigned to the secondary axis in the assigned order. The last series plotted will have visual priority, so the key to getting a specific data series to be "plotted on top" is to make sure it is assigned to the secondary axis and the last series to be plotted. Again, I can't be certain the newer version uses the same thought process, but it is probably worth trying.
