Excel Chart - Text on a Timeline

Hello,
I'm trying to show short notes on a timeline using Excel 2010. I cannot find a chart to do this. I've tried using a Scatter Plot chart with the Horizontal Axis as a Date Axis and then turned Value Display "On".

I've mocked up what I would like to accomplish (it is attached).

The closest thing that immediately springs to my mind is Jon Peltier's method of filling column charts with wordart.

Thanks for the replies, however I really wish to avoid a category chart as it require constant time interval data points to show a time relation to events.

The reason this is important to me is that I have other "scatter line" charts with date/values and wish to synchronize the notes along with the chart to help better explain the data trends based on the notes, without manually adding a text box to every data point in the chart. This also become more daunting when I attempt to change the date range of the chart and have to move/delete/create text boxes to match the time they correspond with.

I did try the chart example you attached, however it was in categories and I didn't attempt to convert to a scatter chart.

I just tried converting it to a scatter chart and the results are what I was looking for. Thank you very much for you advice and suggestions.
