    Count if - not exact match - from cell not string

    Hi there,
    I have a formula, here is an example -
    =COUNTIF('Workbook2.xls]Sheet1'!A1:AH3000, B3)

    This works fine, but I would like to find any match, rather than an exact match.

    From my research, I have found an answer if I was using text, by putting stars around it.
    i.e. =COUNTIF('Workbook2.xls]Sheet1'!A1:AH3000, "*example*")

    However, I can't seem to find a similar solution for using a cell entry, i.e. the result of B3
    Is this possible?

    Many thanks Simon

    Try:

    =COUNTIF('Workbook2.xls]Sheet1'!A1:AH3000, "*"&B3&"*")
    Where there is a will there are many ways.
