Taking Text From 1 End Of A String And Putting It On The Other

I have 2 problems 1st - I have a string where sometimes it starts which alpha characters followed by numeric i.e. abs515x245x215 or it ends with alpha characters i.e. 515x245x215abs and I need them to be to be the same I don't care which way round as long as they are the same. The number of alpha characters will also be between 1 and 3 characters.

The second is that sometimes the information comes in with an"*" rather than "x" and I need them to be all the same, however the position of the "*" can vary depending on how many alphanumeric characters there are.
