Additional cells captured when only one chosen

My office uses Excel 2010 so I hope someone can still help me with this.
At random areas, when I click on a single cell, 3 or 4 additional cells down will be captured. The only way I can capture the single cell is to use my arrow key to get to the desired destination. Very unproductive since we are mainly using quotients in our spreadsheets and need specific cell values for comparisons.
Can someone please help me get this command shut off? This is driving me crazy!
    Thanks!

Is there any visual basic coding in your spreadsheet?

At the risk of sounding silly, I don't understand your question. What is visual basic coding?
I created the spreadsheet from a blank excel format.
