Calculating sick hours out of a forty hour work week

hello, this should be a relatively simple problem to solve but I am stumped. in the attached excel spreadsheet I have the number of hours of sick time they have left and how many they took so far (just a running log, in my copy I included names dates etc. but for privacy purposes...). I want the third column to be the first minus the second so i don't have to keep inputting it manually, but after reading a dozen forums and experimenting I can not get them to do so correctly. I have a few times gotten an answer that is exactly 24 hours off, but I cant get it to add in that 24 hours no matter what I do. Any help would be appreciated. thanks.

    Hi,

If you custom format all the cells as [hh]:mm rather than hh:mm does that do the trick?

I'm not really sure how your workbook works, but for me that makes row 2 on the 2012 sheet show as:

    40:00 01:50 38:10

Is that what it should be?

Thank you very much, I will have to talk to my boss to see if this is what she wants, and I may have more questions later, but this is a good step in the right direction for sure. I have used excel alot but have never mastered any If statements and the like.
