Need a formula to extract data from a cell on another sheet.

I've tried a couple of ways, but can't seem to figure it out. What I want to do is :
On the first sheet I want to extract data on a certain date from another sheet. Say for example - on my first sheet I enter a date. Then the formula must go look for the specific date on sheet4. Then return the value of a cell in the same row. I know that the date is a value so I tried to use that value minus of course a specific value to get to that certain row number but can't use it then. For example say the same date is in cell B7 and the value I want is in D7. So the next day will be in B8 and the next value in D8 and so on. Please help!

It sounds like you can use the VLOOKUP() function. Without seeing/knowing your specifics, though, I'll just provide you with links as to how you can implement it.

Thanks. Got it! Studied excel about 5 years ago, but didn't do anything with it till now. Got a bit rusty. Thanks again.
