Counting unique-ish values in a column

Hello,

I have a column like this - a mixture of names and blank/empty cells:

Row 1: Danny
Row 2: Bill
Row 3: Danny
Row 4:
Row 5: John
Row 6:
Row 7: Danny

What I need to do is to count the number of names in the column to include those that are unique and include those that repeat (such as Danny) as 1 count. So the formula would return '3' because there are 3 names in the column (Danny, Bill, John).
