clearing content from blank cells

I have a large spreadsheet with what looks like blank cells, however, when I try to highlight them using conditional formating it does not recognize them as blank cells unless I first use the 'Clear Content' Any ideas how I can do this without going ell by cell?

Again, my cells look blank, there is no data or formulas in them, but if I try and format them so they become highlited (color) the so called blank cells to not hightlited. However, if I highlite the so called blank cell and choose "Clear-Content" for that cell, the blank highliting will work. But there too many so called blank cells and they are all throughout the spreadsheet so using the Clear-Content on each one of them is not pratical.

I am using Conditional Formatting =isblank(a1) to find and format all blank cells, however it does not recognize the cells as being blank, although they look blank and have no values in them. Once I use Clear-Content on a so-called blank cell the formating works.

Use LEN function like len(A1)=0 ,then do format based on it
