Hey everyone,
I apologize for the ambiguity of this post, but forgive me as I know very very little about excel. I've got a variety of issues that I'm really hoping can be addressed so that I can get this stupid project done!
Essentially, I was given a rather sizeable (16,000 contacts) CRM .xls that was to be configured in preparation for migration into Zoho CRM. The task sounded simple enough, all I had to do was separate first/last name, add fields for phone number, and add several other organizational columns. However, upon receiving the document I was horrified to find that so much of the file was incredibly disorganized and any hope of simply using "text to columns" was shattered.
Here are my main problems: (feel free to berate my stupidity!)
1. I'm having the classic "can't add columns, everything too slow" problem. Attempted to delete last cell/column/row etc, and to absolutely no avail. I then copy special-ed everything with just the values, and obviously this worked but posed another problem!
1(b). Info that was once married to a cell is now starting to encroach into other cells and columns. How do I stop this?!
2. There is a "Contact" column. In a large chunk of the files there is absolutely no use of a space. I assume this is because my boss had no idea how vital it is to use the space bar. Anywho, I need to extract and separate the phone numbers, first/last name/title(president, vp, etc.) all from this one column. Manually would be incredibly difficult seeing as there is such a gigantic amount of contacts.
3. I didn't realize how daunting this was going to be, and this is largely made more difficult because of how incredibly disorganized everything is. Is there any kind of 3rd party tool designed for CRM reorganization that I could use to detect certain characters and assign them to new columns?
ANY help would be appreciated. I know this is not a pretty post.
