Novice trying to work how assign value in a cell based on another cell

Hi, I am a complete novice when working with excel and have been trying to work out how to make a value appear in one column based on the value in another column. I have a drop down menu in column "I" through rows 6 to 40, this has numerical values of 1 to 18. I would Like column "J" through rows 6 to 40 to display a value like 3C for "I"s value of 1 and so on through to 18 and 8A.

I ___J
1= 3C
2= 3B
3= 3A
4= 4C
5= 4B
6= 4A
7= 5C
8= 5B
9= 5A
10= 6C
11= 6B
12= 6A
13= 7C
14= 7B
15= 7A
16= 8C
17= 8B
18= 8A

I cant seem to get that to work, I have copied my values into 2 columns (A and B) in sheet 2, then selected J6 and inputted the formula into the formula bar, am I doing something incorrect?

Based on your last post it seems that you are satisfied with the solution(s) you've received but you haven't marked your thread as SOLVED.
