    slope of a set of points

    Hi,

    I am wondering if it is possible to aquire the slope of a set of points. I have a set of points in a straight line, but would like to figure out exactly what the slope of the line might be. I'm not looking for the trendline, but for the actual slope of the line connected by the points

    1 250
    3 760
    4 1250
    5 1750
    12 5363

    The slope is just the delta y divided by delta x. You have your x's and y's, so what is the problem?

    Also, I am confused by your post. You state you have a set of points in a straight line, then you list what I assume are your x,y coordinates. Those are not linear. If they were linear, the trend line could also give you the slope, but that is overkill for just finding the slope.

    =SLOPE(known y's, known x's) ie = SLOPE(B2:B7, A2:A7)
    You'd probably want the Correlation coefficient (CORREL) or Coefficient of Determination (RSQ) to help determine the fit of those points.
