sumif year

Column A has dates including month/day/year. Column B has principal payments on a loan. Column C has interest payments on the same loan.

Cell D1 is titled “2012 principal”, Cell D3 is titled “2012 interest”. Cell E1 is titled “2013 principal”, Cell E3 is titled “2013” interest”.

In Cell D2 I wish to sumif if principal numbers in column B are made in the year 2012 from column A. The same sumif for interest in 2012, principal in 2013 and interest in 2013.

What would the formula be in Cell D2, D4, E2 and E4?
