Creating a grading feedback form using Excel

Hello All! First time poster here!

I teach at a university and grade ALOT of projects, from speeches to art projects. I would like to be able to create grading feedback form in Excel. This is what I am thinking. On the first sheet, this is where I would enter in the students name, course section date. On this same sheet I would have multiple "canned" responses that I could select. Perhaps these responses could be grouped by the "type" of response. Sort of like:

Type 1
response 1
response 2
response 3
etc.

Type 2
response 1
response 2
response 3
etc.

Type 3
response 1
response 2
response 3
etc.

So, for instance, while the student is giving their speech I can click on the various canned responses as well as having the option to type in personalized messages. When the speech was over, I could click over to the second sheet and everything would be formatted that I could print or save and email directly to the student.

I know this is probably over simplifying things but if anybody had any ideas, I'd be all ears!

Thanks much!

To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post, you need to be using the main 'New Post' or 'New Thread' page and not 'Quick Reply'.
To use the main 'New Post' page, click the 'Post Reply' button in the relevant thread.

On this page, below the message box, you will find a button labelled 'Manage Attachments'.
Clicking this button will open a new window for uploading attachments.

You can upload an attachment either from your computer or from another URL by using the appropriate box on this page.
Alternatively you can click the Attachment Icon to open this page.

To upload a file from your computer, click the 'Browse' button and locate the file.

To upload a file from another URL, enter the full URL for the file in the second box on this page.
Once you have completed one of the boxes, click 'Upload'.

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Re: Creating a grading feedback form using Excel

As suggested by a forum moderator, I have created a "dummy" excel file of how I see the project being setup. As I mentioned earlier, I have a little bit of Excel programming skill (4 out of 10 stars), but just need a bit of help to get going!

Thanks,
Pat

Would anybody suggest particular Excel books that I might read to help me with this?!
Thanks,

Pat,

How about using data validation on the student page. You could then look at eliminating the instructor page and everything would be created on the student page. The data validation would be easy to set up. The saving and printing could then be done from this sheet also.

I'm working on the data validation portion. The macros will take some time and not sure I can do them. I will try what I can and report back.

Pat,

Try this. Student Feedback Demo1.xlsm You will have to enter the file path where you would like the file to be saved as an excel file and pdf file in the respective modules. Each category has a drop down for every item with the last row in each category open for your comments.

I'm sure it can be improved upon, but at least it will get you started. I did not have time to work on the email, however I set up the Print to save the form as a PDF which you can email to the student or print manually.

Regards,

Mike
