    Alternatives to EXCEL?

    My mate has an old steamer labtop that's about 7 years old with XP and 1GB Ram and he wants to run some EXCEL files on it. He doesn't want to buy EXCEL - so are there alternatives or can he run EXCEL files without the EXCEL software in some way....?
