Post Tables do not work in Protected worksheets

    Hi Folks,
Brand new to the forum which I have joined as my job requires me to get deeper into Excel. Not quite a newb but I would appreciate if anyone can tell me if th efollowing is possible:
I create a Table in Excel 2010 using the Format as Table option.
I then Protect the WorkSheet as a couple of columns are used to Authorise work and only these need protection and are 'locked' - all other cells in the Table are unlocked but cells outside of the table are locked as well.

However when tabbing through the Table it will not create a new row. This sort of makes sense but is there any way to do this as I need to create a few more spreadsheets in this way and using the Table option helps others with inputting while I can also validate and protect areas on it.

    Hi Dave

When you first protect the worksheet "Review Tab" it gives you a list of what users can do one of them is insert rows about half way down the list, does that solve it for you.

Thanks for the idea Chris, Unfortuantely the answer to that one is no, it doesn't make any difference. I am hoping there is a way to do this as it would make my solution a lot more elegant than not having this in a Table.

Typical nothing is easy is it. Have a look at the above link, it may well be that your answer lies in VBA of which I have no knowledge perhaps one of our gurus will come to your rescue.

    Thanks again Chris,
I was actually on an Intermediate VBA course yesterday and asked the question there - blank stare from the tutor. Tables it seems are something he has never used. However I could maybe use VBA to create a secure mentod of doing what I want to without the need for a table - although Tables in Excel are cool really - just need a bit more added functionality with the Protection side...

I will get there in the end - and thanks for the link as it is nice to see someone else struggled with this concept as well (then gave up!)...looks like VBA then.
