    Format copying and pasting

This might be really basic but I'm having the hardest time working this out. I'm editing a .xls file in Excel 2010 and for some reason I can only get text to copy and paste and I need the format (borders, text etc). I've tried the format painter and that pasted text too!!!

Any ideas on what setting has been changed that I wasn't aware of.

    Thanks
    Sandra

It sounds like you are trying to format cells that have some conditional format happening. Highlight the cells and then see what conditional formating is being applied to them.

no, don't see any conditional formating and I've just tried opening another new excel 2010 and did borders and the format wouldn't copy and paste only the text so it seems like it's something to do with the whole program not just one file.

That's exactly the same!! Thanks so much. So I guess there isn't a solution at this time if you want IE and excel open.
    I can live with that!!!

    I really appreciate your help!
