Excel 2007 - Default cell 'normal' style is set to Accounting

I have a really annoying problem in Excel which is due to the default normal cell style being set to accounting.

Basically whenever I open a spreadsheet in excel, it changes loads of the cell formats to accounting.

I discovered that the default normal cell style was set to accounting but even if I modify and change all the cells in my spreadsheet back and save the workbook, the next time I re-open it, it resets the default cell type to accounting and I have to do the whole thing again. It is also the case for any new workbooks I open.

This has been going on for weeks now and it's driving me crazy!

Does anyone have any idea what I can do?!

    Thanks!

Thanks, sorry I should have mentioned that I've tried using a template but even with that it still opens up any existing workbooks I have with the accounting style back.

It's on my work machine so I wonder if someone centrally has changed something that they maybe shouldn't have so that it always defaults to accounting...

The Normal style will be used for formatting a cell. If it has been changed, on your machine, for any reason, that cell will get the number format in the Normal Style.

It's not a Template as such. There is no default template like Normal.dot in Word.

Suggest you upload a sample workbook indicating which cells show up as accounting ... as they may not for me.
