Hi guys,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some guidance/information on how I could create an interactive chart in excel similar to the one in the link below

Could it be done by splitting the US states into 50 different objects. Then when you click on one some code would run and update the chart below. Any links to how this could be done would be greatly appreciated.

What you're looking for is called a choropleth map:

You need to have basic VBA knowledge, but the code is on the sheet so it is not too difficult. This is one of the first things I built in Excel when I started my first job.

I've built one of these for my company, so feel free to message me if you have any problems. Unfortunately, its full of confidential data, so I can't just send it to you...
This will also help you: it is a sheet with all of the states as separate objects you can use VBA to color based on values.
