Shared workbooks and how to avoid conflicts

    Hello Everyone,

I am trying to find out how to share a workbook and not have any input conflicts. There are 3 of us that will be inputting data on the spreadsheet and we will obviously select the next empty row. If for some reason we are entering at the same time, I know that we will get a pop up that asks which entry we want to keep and which one we want to discard. I don't want to discard any data. Is there a way to bump one entry down to the next available "empty" row?

    Hi

Would it not be simpler safer and easier to allocate row numbers at the start of the shift ie rows 600-650 for you 651-700 for second person etc and just delete/insert rows as required at end of shift by the spread sheet owner. Never tried it so not sure if ti will even work.

I think that would cause more work on my part on a daily basis vs a little extra work today and then it's good from now on.

    Hi Dena,

Actually, I've never worked with shared Excel files, but I like Chris' idea.

If his idea does not resonate with you, then a slight twist would be to give the three people there own sheets within the shared workbook and then have a macro routine to merge the three sheets into one at the end of the day or week.

@jeff, how would you do that? I am not very familiar with macros.

I did see this on another site but not sure how to do it

    Re: Shared Workbook Resolving Conflicts
Actually you dont need to even open the text file we can just name the text file your invoice number so try adding a text file to the c:\ directory called "1RowIdentity.Text" or whatever your current row number is for example: "514RowIdentity.txt", then use this code:
