Using changes in a drop down list in a single column to date stamp changes in that column.

Hi All
I'm new to this so apologies if I don't follow protocol.

I am a basic excel user and want to use a spreadsheet to track progress of work through a series of activities in a process.
This will be used by a number of team members. So I would like to keep the recording simple by the use of a drop down to set the status of the work and date stamp a column relating to that status when that status changes, so you end up with a series of columns representing steps in the process with dates they were undertaken. This is done simply by team members just changing the status column. I have tried simple if formulas but as you would expect when the status changes the previous date changes.

I have no experience of macro's. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the advice on using a workbook, can you advise how this would solve the problem of loosing date stamps in activity fields
when the status field is changed? As I said I am a basic excel user.

to physically put in a time stamp like you want, you will either have to type it in, or get some1 to write some VBA code to do it for you. any formula you use will just keep changing every time you do anything on the sheet.

To Attach a File:

1. Click on Go Advanced
2. In the frame Attach Files you will see the button Manage Attachments
3. Click the button.
4. A new window will open titled Manage Attachments - Excel Forum.
5. Click the Browse... button to locate your file for uploading.
6. This will open a new window File Upload.
7. Once you have located the file to upload click the Open button. This window will close.
8. You are now back in the Manage Attachments - Excel Forum window.
9. Click the Upload button and wait until the file has uploaded.
10. Close the window and then click Submit.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you
