    Helo with Match and IF formulas

    Hello,

    I have two columns of data - Column A has a list of stocks and Column B has names of stocks from that list that are private. I'd like to write an IF formula based on a Match statement that will show the word "Private" if a stock from the first list appears in the second list, and "Public" if not.

    Any suggestions on how to do this?

    Thanks for the help

    use IF (ISERROR( [lookup] ),"Public","Private"), where [lookup] checks list 2 for the stock name. If you need help with this, upload a dummy file with a sample or two and someone will insert the appropriate formulas.

    Hi Alan,

    Have you the right thread? Your attachment looks completely different from the OPs - I'd hate to see your good work go to waste.

    All the best,

    Brendan;
    Thanks. I posted the wrong spreadsheet. My solution was the same as BentleyBob. Glad the OP got it right and others had jumped in. Thanks for pointing out.
