use auto filter on protected worksheet

Hi all,
I am running excel for mac 2010 with mountain lion
I have a protected worksheet and need to be able to use auto filter on this sheet with out manually unprotecting the sheet, I have tried checking the allow auto filter box when protecting the sheet, but this does not work at all.
I seem to have exhausted all searches on the web, no vba code I have come across works so far.

I also need to be able to move the auto filter to different rows so that only data below gets filtered

any ideas will be gratefully received, I am sure there is a genius out there that can solve this!!!!

hi this sort of works, but it sorts from the top of the column, I need to be able move the auto filter bar to a row and use it to filter which ever column data under that row, as it is a tracker spreadsheet may be highlighting the rows and using sort would be better, have you got a macro that would let me do this when the sheet is protected.
