Can't close out of spreadsheet

Hi,
I can't close out of my spreadsheet (xlsm). I press on the x in the upper right and nothing happens. I've been using the spreadsheet for a long time, but it just started happening yesterday. Any help? Thanks and I'm new here.

ctrl + del + alt and end process ! if you use mac . Use force quit .

I realize I can crtl/alt/del and close down the task. However, the next time I get into the spreadsheet and run the macro, the macro runs fine, but I can't X out of the spreadsheet.
