Lightbulb Best Way to organize cells

    Hello,

I want to know what is the best way to organize a cell.
In this cell I'm entering many suppliers name and for each supplier I'm adding a second cell category in front of each supplier name I'm adding the activity of the supplier.
But many of these suppliers have more than one activity.

for ex: supplier xxx >>> activity: Pumping
Supplier yyy >>> activity: Pumping + Steel
Supplier dddd >>> activity: Steel + Welding work

    Any suggestions
    Thanks

It might be better to have a column for each activity, e.g. column A for Supplier's Name, column B for Pumping, column C for Steel, column D for Welding, and so on, and then you can just put Y or 1 in the appropriate column against each name.

Of course, it all depends on what you want to do with the data once you have recorded it.

    Hope this helps.

But you think in case of Filtering Will this way makes my work harder or simple?

    Thanks for your help

Well, if you wanted to find suppliers for Steel, for example, then you can just apply Autofilter to the Steel column (C) and select Y from the filter drop-down - that's fairly simple.

    Hope this helps.

    We will try this way.
But in this case filing in hard copies will be so difficult.

    Thanks Again

You can do it with a single column but then filtering will get a little trickier, for example, if you filter by "pumping + welding", you won't pick up "welding + pumping" or "pumping and welding". You could use the "contains" criteria and that would work, adding a level for each word you are seeking. However, if you have criterias with the same word, i.e. "spot welding" and "welding", searching for "welding" will pull up all spot welding matches also. Pete's response would be the simplest, I concur.

It may be difficult to add many activity cells, this way will be hard to remember where a chosen activity is placed (is it placed in activity1 or 2 or 3...)

I would think it would be put in multiple activities, i.e. for supplier ABC, you'd put an x under "pumping" and under "welding". I see the issue that some people might think of Supplier ABC only with "pumping" while others would look under "welding". I think you'd run into the same problem with a single column though. I guess the question is how many different catagories are there?

Re: Best Way to organize cells

I have more than 50 activity
    Like for ex :

    Manpower+Equipmnet
    Industrial tools & Equipment
    Electro-industrial equipments
    Steel piping material
    Pipes
Tools & Consumables for Mechanical Works
    Steel Works

So here we have such a supplier activity is pipes and another one activity is Steel piping material.

So putting an X under each activity >> I'll end up with a huge number cells...
