Assistance with linking data in excel between spreadsheet and template

Hi Forum,

I am requiring some assistance or guidance.

I have a spreadsheet that I am using as a quote register, from this spreadsheet i am then creating a seperate spreadsheet which will become a quote that will be sent to my customers.

To save from double work I was hoping to populate the second worksheet with data from the the register spreadsheet. The register spreadsheet is a live document with many user accessing it to record their information but the end result needs to be the quote produced for the customer.

My register spreadsheet generates a unique reference code which needs to be carried accross to the quote spreadsheet. Currently I have a hyperlink to the quote excel template which then the user is required to enetr there details manually from the register spreadsheet. I can not seem to get the hyperlink to recognise the new entries that are being created and then update accordingly.

I am not sure if I am making my problem any clearer but please if you need me to provide further information i can. As i am (very) new i am not sure of the protocal on a forum like this.

Thanks for any help received!!!

Hi KMcG and welcome to the forum

if all you want to do it transfer certain info from 1 workbook to another, you dont need to use a hyperlink. in its simplest form, all you need to do (with both workbooks open), is to click on the cell in the Quote WB where you want a reference to be, type = then just point to the reference in the register WB, then hit enter

If you need to get more fancy than that, perhaps it would be easier to help you if you uploaded sample workbooks, showing what data you are working with, a few examples of what your expected outcome would be, and how you would arrive at that (remove any confidential info if necessary).
To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)
2. If your question is resolved, mark it SOLVED using the thread tools
3. Click on the star if you think someone helped you

Quote Register.xlsxTEST1.xlsx

Ok so thank you to FDibbins for the assistance with the upload. And for being kind enough to respond to my thread. Blasted thing has kept me awake for days on end now!

I am trying to create a seperate spreadsheet that uses information from the register. The idea is to generate a seperate spreadsheet in quote format to distribute to customers whilst maintaining the register for data analysis.

The reason for the link was to ensure my users dont get confused and email the client the register. I am able to create links between two spreadsheets no worries but what i need is a new spreadsheet in quote format created for every row entry in my register.

Please advise me if I am still not making any sense.

yup, makes perfect sense now, thanks

ok, heres what Im thinking...

make an exact duplicate of your quote sheet on a new sheer in your register WB. create all the necessary references to the BD sheet.
create a macro to copy/paste values from the register WB to the quote WB

If you are unfamiliar with macros, you can use RECORD mode (the little WB icon next to READY, bottom left corner). save both WB's, then practice a few times (without saving) until you get the hang of what you want to do. Then turn on record mode, copy/paste values, stop the recorder and create a macro button in the Register WB to activate the macro when you want to use it
