Hyperlinks with JPG files using Internet Explorer do not show pictures on Win7/Excel 2010

In Excel 2007, Hyperlinks in cells pointing to jpg files in a subfolder display with internet explorer. On my WinXP/Intnernet Explorer 8/Office 2007 system these links work fine.

When sending the excel and jpg files to another person with Win7/Office 10, jpg hyperlinks work and launch Internet Explorer but come up blank. (Hyperlinks to PDF files work fine and show up in Acrobat, just the jpg's come up blank in Explorer.)

Questions:
What is causing this, a setting in Explorer/Win7 or Excel?
Can I change Excel hyperlink default software to use something other than Explorer to display the jpg files?

You/they need to change the default pic viewer from windows explorer (probably other ways, too)

in WE, right click on a .jpg file (any 1), select "open with" and then select "choose program". check "always use...."

I have selected "windows picture and fax viewer", so try that 1
1. Use code tags for VBA.
Your Code
(or use the # button)

Hello and Thanks,

That is the first thing I tried with the other user and restarting his system. Doing this makes the picture viewer the default when clicking directly on the file in the Windows Explorer file browser, but within Excel, using a hyperlink in a cell pointing to the jpg file, the Internet Explorer is still the default program used.

My Excel 2007/WinXP/IE8 system/IE9, the hyperlinks work fine but in his Win7/Excel2010/IE9 the hyperlinks to the jpg files still launch the Internet Explorer 9 without error messages but the screen is blank.

My gut tells me it's a IE9 setting, but it would be nice to know if Excel can be forced honor the default program list.

I had exactly the same problem with a file I use, it has 100's of hyperlinks to jpg's on a network. (others also use from time to time). I access this file from at least 3 different machines (from time to time), and I had the same problem on all 3 machines until I set the file association in WE. After I set the file associations, they "obeyed" my instructions

Re: Hyperlinks with JPG files using Internet Explorer do not show pictures on Win7/Excel 2

Hi FDibbons (Again, sorry)

Here is what I see:

On my system (WinXP/Office2007/IE8) I set the the file association of jpg to Windows Fax and Picture Viewer. When clicking on the file in Windows Explorer, the jpgs come up in Windows Fax and Picture Vewer. When clicking on the Excel links, the jpg's still open with Win Int Explorer 8. Excel seems to ignore the default program for fie types.

My client, using Win7/Excel2010/IE9, when clicking on the jpg hyperlinks in the same Excel file as I have developed for him, Excel opens IE9 with no error messages, but the jpg's show up blank. I have had him set the default program to Windows Fax and Picture Vewer, but this did not work.
I consider this a stupid problem, but I am stuck. I have to get this to work. Help!!!!!

This is a long shot, but what is the exact file extensions?

Is is JPG or is it JPEG?

You can have both, each pointing to a different program.
