I've seen somewhere someone selling an Excel spreadsheet mentioning that they use 'database' files with their Excel file

I've googled and can't seem to find anything that makes sense

Is there any such thing as an 'Excel database' file?
How is this different from an Excel file with several interlinked worksheets?
