Question After splitting data in one column using delimiter, only some data splits!

Currently, I have an excel sheet of names and addresses. In my address column, many of the addresses have carriage returns separating information. I want to divide this information by carriage returns and parse it into different columns.

I have already tried what I believe is the correct method: I go to Data>Text to Columns. I choose "delimited." Then I enter [Alt 0101] under "other" and make sure that is the only option checked. When I finish, only *some* of my data is parsed into corresponding columns by the delimiter while some isn't. Does anyone know why this occurs and if there is a fix?

Maybe some lines of your addresses were wrapped naturally because of the length of the line, and there wasn't a hard-return code there.

Incidentally, the code is 010 - I presume your 0101 is a typo.

You might like to do a Find & Replace (CTRL-H) first and replace Alt-010 (or CTRL-J) with the pipe symbol (|) or some other character that is not in your address list, and then you will be able to see where the text will be parsed.

    Hope this helps.

Hey Pete--Thanks for your help. That was a typo in the forum on my part. So, I tried replacing the carriage return with a symbol as you suggested. After that, I used the symbol as a delimiter. However, I somehow ended up with the exact same problem--the exact same cells would not parse into different cells, even though they had the symbol in them. This proves, of course, that those cells do have carriage returns within them. However, they just don't want to split, even though others do. I can't find any kind of correlation between the cells that refuse to split. It's baffling to me.
