Edits to cells are saved, then worksheet closed, changes do not appear upon reopening

I am making changes to cell content and saving doc, close it, then when i reopen all the edits are not there. Ex- change a series of cells to a diff size font and put a fill and a border on it. Save, close, reopen and all those cells are stirpped of everythign but the value and are a smaller diff font, no fill, etc...???
