    Question Drop down list problem

    Hey all,

    I have a peculiar problem.

Currently i have a table for reference,

    Food Price
    AAA $1
    BBB $2
    CCC $3

I have created a drop down list using Data Validation.
However, i require the drop down to display selection of food, but display the prices upon selection

    Is that possible in Excel?

    Thanks all!

Create a table with all foods and their prices and then in columnB, use INDEX & MATCH to get the prices.

however, for the cell in interest here, the cell is restricted by data validation already due to the dropdown list, how do i input the index and match code into that cell?

What i mean is.: In Column A(for example) you'll have your validation list and in Column B your INDEX & MATCH.

ah i see. sorry about that.
i need it to be the same cell, where the dropdown list is. Is it possible to achieve this in Excel?
i can't think of ways other than using at least 2 cells.

    Hi septeal..
I don't think that's possible because of circular reference....

hmmm yea i was wondering the same
right now i have two cells two, one with data validation, the other with vlookup

but i kinda need it to be on just 1 cell. Example, choosing AAA in the dropdown list, produces the value $1 upon clicking.
