Conditional Formatting Based on Alternate AND matching values

    Hello,

The attached sheet is used for a competition. Scores get added in the columns on the right (labelled 1-23) which are added up automatically by the 'Total' column. In this sheet I have manually formatted the cell shading based on the 'Total' column so that rows with the same value have the same shading, but if a row has a different value to the one above it then that shading will alternate.

Is there are way to do this with conditional formatting? Particularly one that won't be messed up by the 'SORT' and 'SORT NAMES' macros?

    Thanks

Thanks for the reply. Doesn't work though. Also, the chage to the 'Total' formula to tidy it up wrecks the sort macro (I found this out myself earlier that's why I left if with the 0's showing.

    Cheers

Sorry, I guess I didn't fully understand what the sheet was doing and it looks to be an Excel 2003 sheet, even tough you show you're working in 2010. Maybe a few more details would help explain what you need to do. Good Luck!

Re: Conditional Formatting Based on Alternate AND matching values

    Hello,

So to clarify, what I really need help with is creating conditional formating which does the following: (Open the attachment above to follow)

The first total (Cell C6) is 22 and that row is white
The next total (Cell C7) is different (18) which means the row needs to change colour to grey
The third total (Cell C8) is different again (16) so that row needs to change back to white,
The fourth total (Cell C9) is the same as C8 (16) so in this case I want the row to be the same colour (white in this case)
The fifth total (Cell 10) is a different value to C9 so the row changes back to grey, however had C10 = C9 then that row whould have to be white.

The attachment has the colours manually entered to illustrate what I want, but I would prefer a way of doing this with conditional formatting.

Hopefully this makes what I am trying to achieve clear. I have manually made the

I'm not sure if this can be done without VBA, the issue for me is the third condition where the color changes back to white. I can't think of a way to handle that with conditional formatting. If I think of something I'll get back to you. Good Luck!
