Add Hyperlink to shape that refers to website contained in an external workbook cell

    Hi,

I've been trying without success to hyperlink a shape in one workbook that refers to a website contained in a second workbook cell.

The hyperlinked shape is in the current workbook and the website address is in a workbook called "data source.xlsx", sheet 1, cell A1.

My last attempt was this - ('C:\Users\Louise\Documents\MA\[data source.xlsx]Sheet1'!A1)

    Can anyone help please?

    Louise

    Hi Louise

I have used a macro in the "First book" to activate the hyperlink in the "Data" file

Is this what you are looking for?

    Hi Alistair,

I'm sorry for not replying sooner as I thought it was too late to receive a reply.

I think my question was confusing and I was trying to ask for help with a two stage hyperlink. That is, rather than the hyperlink opening a file somewhere, I wanted it to refer to a cell address in an external workbook that would contain the address of a file to open. This is so the addresses in the external file can change without requiring the hyperlink to change.

I was hoping it could be done without using VBA - do you believe it is feasible please?

    Thanks,

    Louise

    Hi Louise

When setting up your hyperlink I am guessing that you tried to type in the address? I merely selected the file. Ensuring that the Data file was closed, I set up a hyperlink by selecting from the drop down menu.

You may note that the reference is merely to the file and not to the cell.

I hope that this is what you are looking for, but if not - let me know.
