That command cannot be used on multiple selections error for pasting single cell

I get the error "That command cannot be used on multiple selections" when trying to copy and paste a single cell from one Excel file to another. The error is not related to the ranges of the selected data, it occurs when copying and pasting an entry in a single cell in one file to a single cell in another file.

That should work. Is it only a recent problem?

Have you installed anything new, or upgraded anything, recently, not necessarily related to Excel.

The thing that always springs to mind when there are problems copying and pasting, is Skype Click to Call. I noticed, on a recent Skype installation, that this option is still available and, once upon a time, it caused copy/paste problems.

Check it in Control Panel and, if it is there, remove it.

    Hi
This is a new problem, it only happens with certain documents. I don't have Skype installed, I haven't installed or updated anything recently.

Is the problem related to the Source workbook or the Target workbook? That is, if you keep the Source the same, can you paste into a new blank workbook? Or can you select a cell in a new blank workbook and copy and paste it into the Target workbook?

Do you have any merged cells in the Source or the Target workbook?

Can you upload a sample document that exhibits the problem? You can make a copy of a "live" document and delete or depersonalise sensitive data.

Just need to be able to see if it can be reproduced on someone else's machine.
