How to delete thousands of rows of nothing below my data?

In the attached worksheet, you can see that my data is only around 1300 rows long, but the worksheet itself goes all the way to the end. How do I delete all the nothingness below the data so that my scroll bar will be useful again? Just FYI - I've already tried deleting all the rows below, saving and re-opening. It does not work.

    Any help would be appreciated!

you should be able to select them all

click on the row below your last data
    then use
    contol+shift+down arrow
    delete
    delete the rows
    save

as shown in the attached - the scrol bar now goes to the bottom of the bar when at the bottom of your data

Sometimes when converting a file from xls to xlsx format, it treats the used range much larger than it is.

A basic macro will actually reset this.

    1. Press Alt + F11 to open to the Visual Basic Editor
    2. Choose Insert --> Module
    3. Enter the following code

    4. Run the code (press the button that looks like a Play button at the top.
    5. You're used range will be reset

You're welcome to try. Let me know if it works. Like I said, I tried that and it just doesn't work for me.

Re: How to delete thousands of rows of nothing below my data?

Maybe it's a 2 step process. First highlight and delete all of the rows below your last used row. Then follow the steps in my prior post.

Also, if it helps, I'm attaching a copy of your report with the used range reset. You can work with the attached file, but I figured I'd also post instructions to you can resolve this problem in the future

Re: How to delete thousands of rows of nothing below my data?

You're right - it's a two-step process. Thanks for the help! This still just seems to be a whole lot of trouble for something that ought to be pretty simple. I mean, really? A macro just to delete the lines below your data?? Seems like renting a bulldozer to plant a daisy. But whatevs. Thanks!

Re: How to delete thousands of rows of nothing below my data?

You are somewhat correct. This is an issue that I see arising due to the transition from older versions of Excel (xls format) to new versions (xlsx format).

The last row with a data is 1333, so I do not see there are data beyond this row.

Here is a free format cleaner that should do the job that you want:
