Adding rows to sheets with 3D Referencing.

    help.xlsx

I have attached a file for reference. I have another file I use that is similar to the one attached, however it has 500+ rows and is still growing. The issue I am having is that in this file I want to make a "Template" worksheet. Basically I need 50ish sheets that are more or less the same. I have a column that describes a item, a items weight, a row with headers for the columns that I want to appear identical on every worksheet. I want the variables to be the count. These will change from sheet to sheet with formulas to than update the totals.

My issue I am having is that I constantly find myself needing to insert new rows for new items. In my real worksheet I have rows grouped together in a logical way so the rows cannot just always be placed in the next available row at the end of a sheet. What I am hoping is that someone has a way of showing me how I can have sheet 1 be my "template" and the others take their item lists and weights from sheet 1. In the example file I created sheet 1. I than created sheet 2 and selected a cell entered "=" and selected the cell that I want it to have the same info from on sheet one. I fill handled these items down to generate a list. I than held down control and dragged a couple of new sheets. This process works, and is what I am currently doing, but what do I do when I wish to add a new rob between row 4 & 5?

Thank you for any help in advance.

    Matt

    Hi Matt

Click on the first sheet tab (where it says Sheet 1)
Hold down the Shift key and click on the last sheet (in your example Sheet 2 (4) )
You will note that all sheets have now been highlighted which means that the have been selected
Enter the name, weight and formula for the total column (Quick tip - go into the blank cell and press Ctrl + d - it copies Down from the line above)
Right click on the first sheet tab and Ungroup (this bit is VERY important - otherwise you will get some very interesting results - I know - I've been there )

You might want to use this system for populating in the first place - I think it is better than having lots of linked cells - so much to go wrong.

Let me know if this works for you.

    Regards
    Alastair

Re: Adding rows to sheets with 3D Referencing.

Thanks for getting back to me, sorry I haven't had a chance to look at this until now. I actually went with this approach initially and that is what typically caused me problems. I found that I had previously at times clicked sort on one tab of a 50 tab workbook not realizing I only had one tab selected. I than performed many other operations before realizing. Now I didn't want to undo and have to redo my work if I even noticed this. Than I perform the tasks as you explained and the row appeared weird between the sheets because one or two of the sheets were sorted wrong or something like that. Additionally I found that when doing this I was experiencing a large lag in the time it took to add that info.

I don't suppose anyone else has any thoughts on this?

    Matt
