Question How do you display text in a cell that goes away once something is inputted?

    Hey Guys,

I am making a list in excel and there are mutliple cells where I want the user or customer to fill in their inormation. For example, In C2, the customer is supposed to enter the name in. Do you know how I can pu text in this cell that will automatically disappear once they start editing the cell?

    I.e. [Manual Entry]

    Any help would be spledid!

    Cheers,

    Sajan

You could work with colors to identify the input cells (e.g. blue for input).

    Yellow for formula.

    Gold for dropdownmenu

    etc.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

    Hi sajanpatel15

oeldere's suggestion is probably the best as it is much easier to scan the document and see all the blue cells that have not been completed rather than looking for [Manual Entry] (Especially if the instructions say something like "Please complete all blue cells".). As a bonus, you could use conditional formatting so that once a cell is completed, it becomes white.

However, to aid your understanding, if you do put (say) [Manual Entry] into a cell, it will be overtyped if the user goes into the cell and start typing (rather than going in to the cell and pressing F2 to edit)

    Hope this helps

It will not look good if you force the customer to overwrite the data

My suggestion will be is to put that message in

    Data>>Data validation>> Date Validation>>Input message
Please make the Post as solved, when you get your answer & Click * if you like my suggestion
