Excel Links - How to keep track. What workbooks/files link to the current workbook?

    Hi All,

I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to find out what workbooks link to the workbook I currently have open. I know there is edit links, which allows me to see what links I have in my current workbook, but is there something like a reverse edit links? In other words what documents out there in my drive point to my opened document?

Is this something a macro can accomplish?

    Thanks for any help!

I don't believe there is anything like a reverse edit links capability, even using VBA. In theory, any file that has access to the folder your file is stored in can link to that file just through a straight cell reference.

On the Data tab click on Existing Connections.

All connections to the current workbook will be shown.

In my experience, that doesn't work or at least doesn't do what the OP is requesting. I would be happy to be proven wrong.

Thanks for the input! I thought it may not be possible. I took over a spreadsheet that needs updating but my updates could ruin links to the other documents if I don't have them all open. It would be great if excel had a feature where once I linked to the document I had open, it keeps a list of files that reference that document (at any point in time) I'm currently working on. That way I could know which documents I need open to maintain links. Maybe someday...
