I know virtually nothing about Excel but what little I do know has proved to be very powerful and useful. To learn about it I bought a book, which mentions something about the Clipboard Task pane, implying that it is easy to access. I see the clipboard icon on the upper left but can't get the pane , which fills the left hand column, to appear. What am I missing?
If you look, you will see a small "slanty-pointing" arrow - click on that

I have 2007, the 2003 version is visually very different - try shg's suggestion
