In v-10 changed from .xls to .xlsx Do I need to save Personal.xls as Personal.xlsx ?

I have Excel 2010. For the first few years, I set my default save as Excel 97-2003 (*.xls)
I now want to start saving all Excel workbooks as .xlsx. I've already made the change in File / Options / General / Save
Do I have to do anything in particular to Personal.xls, such as saving it as Personal.xlsx ?
Please advise. The more detail, the better.

You don't have to change PERSONAL.XLS to get it to load, just because you changed the default save format. However, note that the file name from Excel 2007 forward is PERSONAL.XLSB. I do believe that PERSONAL.XLS will load if it's in the XLSTART folder, which I did by accident once.

This is very easy to confirm. Open Excel, then View, Unhide and see if PERSONAL.XLS is shown in the hidden workbook list. If so you're all set.
