Hi,
Please try to be a little more descriptive of what you want. "I want to have a search function on top of each column" does not tell us much.
What should it search for? What should it return? In what respects will it differ from the in-built autofilter?
Regards
Thank you for the response. I need to have a function where in if I type a character for example on cell A2, it would return the row that has a match. For example, I type "01" it will return the rows 3,12,13,14,15,16,17. Or if if type "FLD", it will not filter anything because all data on column A has the characters "FLD"
Second example, is when i type "A" on cell B2 it will return all the rows that has the character "A".
But is this not precisely what the in-built autofilter does (which you appear to have already applied in your attachment)?
Regards
Is there a way to have that auto-filter exact function on a cell? And i want the results to be filtered without pressing enter.
You don't press ENTER to use the autofilters (?) You simply click on the arrows.
And I'm not sure what you mean by "have that auto-filter exact function on a cell" - can you give some concrete examples?
Regards
The way the auto-filter works is the same one i need but i want that functionality on the 2nd row cells. Meaning i don't need to click the arrow on 1st row cells to do a filter. Basically the way the built in auto-filter works is like this.
1. Click the arrow on cell A1
2. Click on the auto-filter search box
3. Type characters to display desired results
3. Press enter
4. Results will show
But what i want is like this
1. Click on cell A2
2. Type characters to display desired results (without pressing enter)
3. Results will show
bump no response
I'm still not sure I fully understand.
Is the sole reason for this request basically that you are not satisfied with the number of mouse-clicks/keyboard strokes required to operate the otherwise perfectly adequate in-built autofilter system? Or is there something else that I've missed?
Regards
the only ways you can have the filtering done without pressing enter are to add activex controls to the sheet and use their change event or to use a keyboard hook. neither option really seems worthwhile to me ;-)

if at first you don't succeed try doing it the way your wife told you to
XOR LX, you didnt missed anything. you are correct. Im however already getting used to using the built-in auto filter system, i think it was designed that way and i need to use it that way. I was just thinking if there is a certain formula but i guessed we need more than that and i think its not efficient to do that effort for the required result. Im closing this thread now, and thank you for all the response.
You're welcome. Thanks for the feedback.
(And thanks JosephP as well for the clarification.)
