    Master formula

    Hi

I am trying to copy value from a master sales sheet into another sales sheet for reporting.
I have managed to create a master formula say
='[MASTER SALES sheet MET 13-14.xlsx]Tosca'!$C$18 and I then want to copy this formula to include the values from d18,e18 etc
When I copy the formula across it just inserts the same formula and does not change the cell ref to d18, e18 etc.
What am I doing incorrect ?

    Re: Master formula

    change it to this...
='[MASTER SALES sheet MET 13-14.xlsx]Tosca'!C18 then drag left.
the dollar signs lock in columns or rows and in front of both it locks in that cell.

    Re: Master formula

You have it set to objective instead of relative references, by using those dollar signs.

    Try:
    ='[MASTER SALES sheet MET 13-14.xlsx]Tosca'!C18

    instead.

    Re: Master formula

    Thanks that worked

My other query is ... is there a way to copy all the formulae and values from one sheet to another and then when the original master sheet updates the second sheet also updates ... am I making myself clear ?

sure, if you just point each cell to the reference sheet. So for example in sheet2 cell A1 you make it =Sheet1!A1, then just click on it and drag down and to the right.

    Re: Master formula

Ok Not sure if I am explaining my self correctly

Sheet 1 is the master sheet and Sheet 2 is the report sheet so I want to copy the data from sheet 1 to sheet and then when sheet 1 is updated sheet 2 is automatically updated.

You gave example "=Sheet1!A1 is this inserted in the master formula ?

    Re: Master formula

No, the formula I gave would be in sheet2 and refer to the master sheet.
    something like this in sheet2 =Master Sheet!A1
