I am currently creating a Year Planner in Excel 2003 for work.
This is the template I am using. Yearly Planner.xls (Most of the data has been deleted from the list, and the visual chart has some quickly put in fake data for illustrative purposes).
Basically I am attempting to put all the events we have to look forward to in 2014 into one calendar, so that we can quickly and easily see what's coming up. There are two worksheets, one is the list of events which has a columns for the event type, event name, the event start date and event end date. This worksheet is also formatted into colours so that the event type can be more easily identified. The second worksheet is the actual calendar where every second row represents a month, and each cell represents a day. The events are then shown by coloured cells, for single day events, and coloured text boxes for multi-day events.
The problem I have, is that this is going to be a fluid document - as things change throughout the year this calendar will be updated. At the moment, both the events list and the calendar has to be updated at the same time with the same information. This introduces a high risk of mismatch between the calendar and the list of events.
Is there an Excel 2003 calendar template out there which works a single list of events? It would have to automatically update the visual calendar every time the list of events is updated.
Edit:
I'm thinking, something similar to a Gantt Chart which takes it's date from a spreadsheet.
